The Grange Mutual Casualty Company was formed in 1931 in Columbus, Ohio. Its goal was

In business since 1937, Progressive is one of the nation's largest auto insurers. It
was founded in Cleveland by two lawyers, Joseph Lewis and Jack Green. They started the
company by buying five small auto service companies that provided insurance.
Progressive has since grown into an industry leader with a reported net written premium
in excess of 5.3 billion. They have introduced a variety of innovative practices over
the years, including time-payment premium plans, drive-in claim service, comparison

Auto-Owners Insurance Company was started in 1916 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The infant
company had no capital and housed in one room of a bank.
Today, it is one of the largest property and casualty companies based in Michigan and
ranks among the largest in the nation. Its success can be traced back from its present
management to the early leadership of Vern V. Moulton who organized the company and
placed it under his arm and in his pocket.
The company continually grew by offering competitive auto insurance and in 1940 entered
the general casualty insurance field and began to offer more products. Auto-Owners now
has 13 full-service offices around the country and has been rated among the top 50
insurance companies for outstanding financial results from World Financial Group.
Golden Rule was founded in 1940 by Michael Andrew and his wife, Mary Frances. The
company has come a long way since they operated the business from the basement of
their home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. While maintaining its home office operations
in Lawrenceville, the company quickly grew and opened another office in Indianapolis.
Golden Rule established itself as a leader and innovator in the health insurance
industry with the introduction of new products. New products like their
individual medical plan called Inflation GuardSM, Asset-Care®, and Medical Savings
AccountsSM. These are only several of their innovations which have helped them attain an "A"
(Excellent) rating from A.M. Best.
Foremost Insurance Group begain with three people in a one-room office in downtown
Grand Rapids, Michigan. They started in 1952 by offering mobile home insurance, which
was something no other insurance company offered. With the forsight to see that housing
would be in short supply following World War II, they knew mobile homes would be a
solution.
While Foremost was growing with the mobile home market, they decided to take the next
step and offer the first policy designed for travel trailers in 1961. They continued
to move forward by adding RV insurance and in 1978, they sold their first automobile
policy. Their innovation also provided specialized policies for landlords and owners
of older homes, and sight-built home.
